We are a collective voice of 6,500 members statewide. Maine REALTORS® protect private property rights, build Maine communities, and grow our state’s economy.
The Maine Association of REALTORS® is committed to the protection and preservation of the constitutional right of every individual to acquire, use and dispose of real property as chosen within the law. We oppose laws, rules and regulations that impose unreasonable restraints and limitations on the ownership, use and transfer of real property, including inequitable and counterproductive taxes/fees.
The Maine Association of REALTORS® supports policies and initiatives that serve to increase the availability and affordability of housing through the private sector and supports housing initiatives that encourage homeownership by individuals and families at all income levels. We encourage housing policies that respond to the individual and collective housing needs of our state. We advocate for the modernization of local planning and zoning policies that address the housing needs for both today and tomorrow.
Higher property taxes: Proposals aim to increase taxation on property use, increase the real estate transfer tax and allow municipalities the option to tax certain properties inequitably.
Maine families will suffer: Increased fees on private property for some add to the cost of housing for ALL.
Harmful to Maine’s economy: Without a healthy supply of housing inventory, both residential and commercial real estate will suffer which, in turn, will hinder Maine’s economy.
